Community Service :

Plans for 2009-2010:

The Community Service Director, Faye McIntosh, has indicated that a primary objective for the committee is to raise the profile of Rotary in our local community by appearing often in the community, for example by participation in events like the Cancer Council's Daffodil Day.

Bowel Scan was also supported recently and the Red Shield Collection Day as well required a big effort by all club members and partners as we took on our usual role in the Roseville/Lindfield area.

Club members under the leadership of Community Service Director, Faye McIntosh, set up for thr Bridge Day at St Ives Uniting Church recently and some 80 players had a most enjoyable day in the process raising approximately $4000 for Rotary Shelter Box and KYDS.

Books for Lifeline Appeal. Faye has delivered 12 boxes of books to the Scouts' Hall in addition to several other contributions made independently by Lindfield Rotarians.

We are also in talks with St Albans Church about ways we might help them with the development of their proposed children's play area.

The Community Service function within Lindfield Rotary is now quite broad with Club Members being actively recruited to participate in a number of Community based programs including, Easy Care Gardening, Meals on Wheels, Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Community Transport and the Ku-ring-gai/Hornsby Volunteer Service. The participation of Lindfield Rotarians in such programs is not only of great value to the organizations involved but also adds a new dimension to the presence of Rotary in the community where we seek to serve.

Bowelscan:

We enlisted for the Bowelscan program again this Rotary year. The program ran from March  to April  2008. The program was instrumental in identifying 218 cancers and 764 polyps across Districts 9680, 9690 and 9710 last year.

 Red Shield Appeal:

The club again undertook the organization of the Lindfield/Roseville Doorknock for the Salvation Army on Red Shield Sunday the 24th May. With the assistance of students from Killara High School, Roseville College, Abbotsleigh and Shore Grammar, nearly all members of the club and many of their partners participate in this very worthy exercise. Student collectors are ferried to the various collection areas by Team captains who supervise the doorknock. We plan to be part of this very worthy campaign again in 2010.
